What about the beer?

Colour is black with a two-finger thick beige head. Aroma has espresso, chocolate and soft milky roast. Taste begins with biting bitter roast. Bitter espresso and roasted salty liquorice take over with sharp spicy chocolate notes. Towards the end both coffee and liquorice round up a bit and give space to dark chocolate and spicy booze. Aftertaste has salty liquorice, strongly bitter roast and dry alcohol warmth.

Bitter and spicy Foreign Stout. Strong & sharp espresso, liquorice, roast and chocolate flavours. Me like it a lot. Seems like we have one high quality brewery near the eastern border in South Carelia.

This beer was part of Alko's Finnish artisanal beer selection in spring 2018.

Since the brewery is from Lappeenranta, I gave in to the temptation to pair their beer with a song by the band loved by everyone from the same town. "Ihminen tietää sen, että / maailma ilman perkelettä / on kuin viini ilman humalaa. / Ja valtakunta, jossa / hyvyys kylpee valossa, / ei sellaista ole olemassakaan."* And to complete my assholeness, I chose the remix instead of the original version from the album Kuolleen kukan nimi (2002). What about the beer?

Colour is dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma has sweet bread, syrupy malts, dark fruits and raisins. Taste starts with bitter grainy malts. Dryish and grainy and bready malts take over with a hint of bittersweet fruits. Towards the end malty sweetness, dark fruits and gentle bitterness get through. Aftertaste has bitter fruits, dry malts and alcohol warmth.

Malty and tasty Bock. Malt dominance is broken a bit by fruity and bitter flavours. Didn't taste the sauna stove stones used in brewing process, though. How would a hot olivine-diabase taste, anyway? Let's leave that for you to try, dear reader.

But as usual, I don't mind brewer's choices but I don't necessarily follow them either. And since sometimes I just pick the song right from the name of the beer, here we go again...

What about the beer?

Colour is blackish dark brown with a thin beige head. Aroma has a bit smoky roasted malts, espresso and dark chocolate. Taste begins with heavily charred-roasted malts with a hint of alcohol. Roasted malts and strong espresso come in front. Near the finish bitter hops, salty cocoa and some dark fruit flavours step to the side. Aftertaste has dry bitterness, dark chocolate and black coffee.

Very tasty and special Imperial Stout. Roasted malts, coffee and chocolate all come in bitter-dry and strong extremes. Alcohol tries to exist in the taste, but quickly dies out. Flavours are not in any way rounded or flattened but that just suits me. Damn, it's great to have excellent breweries in your home town.

Heavy punch-in-the-face brew cries for a similar song. Nothing similar with the noblity of the beer's name (vuorineuvos is a Finnish honorary title given for merits in industry) here's some Finnish heavy. The band connected itself to Finnish bulk lager brand later but who cares:
